IU's music video for 'Dear my crazy soulmate,' a pre-release track from her 6th full album, has garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally. The MV features a stellar cast including veteran actresses Kim Young-ok and Na Moon-hee, along with Esom and Shim Dal-gi, and IU herself, presenting a short film-like narrative that captivates the public. The song quickly topped major music charts upon its release, reaffirming IU's influence.
The music video begins with a striking premise: Young-ok (Kim Young-ok), an old friend, deliberately breaks a police station window to be arrested and sent to prison, all to celebrate her friend Moon-hee's (Na Moon-hee), a prison guard, birthday. IU and Shim Dal-gi appear as police officers, acting as facilitators for their friendship. The phrase 'To Yoo In-na' is a dedication from IU to her long-time friend, Yoo In-na, connecting the story of the two friends in the MV with IU's heartfelt message.
Bloggers note that the real-life friendship of over 60 years between Kim Young-ok and Na Moon-hee amplifies the emotional impact of the MV, praising how the characters' relationships and story are clearly conveyed even in a short video. The lyrics 'You can be weird in front of me forever, that's why I like you even more,' penned by IU, are highlighted as containing the core message of the MV, leaving a lasting impression.
