Odaesan Woljeongsa Seonjaegil in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, is currently gaining attention for its stunning autumn foliage. The peak season for viewing the colorful leaves in Odaesan National Park's valleys and primeval forests is expected from mid to late October, with the most vibrant colors anticipated between October 17th and October 26th. Following a revision of the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, admission to Woljeongsa Temple and the Seonjaegil trail is now free.
Seonjaegil is a one-way trekking course stretching approximately 9km from Woljeongsa Fir Forest Path to Sangwonsa Temple entrance, taking about 3 hours and 30 minutes for an adult. Due to significant elevation differences in Odaesan, the autumn colors begin at Birobong Peak and gradually descend to the Woljeongsa Valley and Seonjaegil area. The Woljeongsa Fir Forest Path, with its 1,700 fir trees intertwined with deciduous trees, offers a unique blend of colors and is a gentle course suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Walking along the Odaecheon stream provides a connection with nature.
Visitors planning an autumn trip to Odaesan Woljeongsa Seonjaegil are advised to visit between the third and last week of October. For those heading towards Sangwonsa Temple, it is recommended to dress in layers as higher altitudes can be chilly in the mornings and evenings. If planning a valley trek on Seonjaegil, wear trekking shoes or hiking boots with good grip, and exercise caution on slippery decks and stone paths after rain. Parking at Odaesan National Park's public parking lot costs 5,000 KRW during peak season, and city buses run every 30-40 minutes from Sangwonsa to Woljeongsa, making public transport convenient.
