A 50-year-old woman is currently under police investigation for allegedly installing eavesdropping devices on a cafe table to secretly listen to the private conversations of singer and actor Cha Eun Woo. The woman is accused of installing the devices on two separate occasions at a cafe in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, known to be frequented by Cha Eun Woo, and was apprehended while attempting to retrieve them. This incident has reignited serious concerns about the invasion of privacy for public figures.
According to police investigations, the woman, identified as Ms. A, installed eavesdropping devices under a cafe table on August 23rd and 29th. Reports indicate that she installed two devices during her first visit and an additional three during her second, totaling five devices. Ms. A was caught by police on August 30th when she returned to the cafe to retrieve the installed devices after a report was made. Although initially emergency arrested, she was later released and is currently undergoing investigation without detention. Police are conducting a digital forensic analysis of her mobile phone to determine how she acquired the devices and if there were any accomplices.
Bloggers have expressed alarm over the incident, with comments such as "It's scarier that she came back to install them again, not just once" and "How did she even know Cha Eun Woo's schedule?" There is a strong sentiment that such acts, which go beyond mere fandom, constitute an unacceptable invasion of privacy. The consensus is that secretly listening to private conversations, even of a celebrity, is a serious matter. Police are considering whether to apply for an arrest warrant after completing their investigation.
