The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) for 2026 is set to open on Tuesday, October 6, and will run for ten days until October 15. Hosted at the Busan Cinema Center and other venues across Busan, this year's festival marks the first since its designation as an A-list film festival by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), drawing significant global and local attention.
The festival will showcase 247 officially invited films from 59 countries, representing the largest scale since 2019. A stellar lineup of Korean actors including Jeon Do-yeon, Jo In-sung, Hyun Bin, Lee Min-ho, Kim Go-eun, and Shin Min-a, as well as international luminaries like Michelle Yeoh, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Isabelle Huppert, and Fan Bingbing, are expected to attend. Michelle Yeoh, the recipient of the 'Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award,' will visit Busan for the first time in 15 years, while Maggie Gyllenhaal will make her inaugural visit to Korea. The opening film is 'Night and Day Are to Each Other' directed by Kim Jong-kwan.
Screenings will take place at the Busan Cinema Center, CGV Centum City, Lotte Cinema Centum City, and other locations throughout Busan, offering various ways to experience the festival. Special events like 'Actors House' are also planned. Ticket sales for opening/closing ceremonies and Actors House began on September 17, with general screenings starting on September 21.
