Gujeolsan Pokpoam in Goseong, Gyeongnam, is gaining attention as a healing travel destination, harmonizing Gujeol Waterfall, a suspension bridge, and a golden Yaksa Yeorae Buddha carving. This hidden gem offers a unique charm by allowing visitors to experience a quaint temple perched on a cliff, a waterfall, and a thrilling suspension bridge all in one location.
The Pokpoam temple was established next to the approximately 10-meter-high Gujeol Waterfall, with a golden Yaksa Yeorae Buddha carving on the cliff face next to the main hall. The Gujeolsan Suspension Bridge, installed about 50 meters above the waterfall, is 35 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, providing an exhilarating experience. Another attraction is the Shaking Rock (Sowonbawi), believed to be the transformed tail of a dragon. Walking approximately 300 meters up a steep path from the parking lot to the temple, visitors encounter 108 stone pagodas, including those representing the Chinese zodiac. Admission and parking are free.
Visitors note that the 108 stone pagodas and zodiac pagodas along the path to Pokpoam help alleviate the monotony of the uphill climb. Despite the steep incline, the views from the suspension bridge are described as magnificent, with cool breezes making the strenuous journey worthwhile. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes, especially after rain, as stairs and rocks can be slippery. The site is also pet-friendly, attracting many visitors with their companion animals.
