Gangneung is hosting a series of festivals and events throughout October, including the extended public holidays for Gaecheonjeol and Hangeulnal. The 18th Gangneung Coffee Festival, in particular, is expanding beyond Anmok Coffee Street to include Jumunjin, Jungang Market, and Ojukheon, under the slogan 'Coffeeful Gangneung.' In addition, various local events such as the Gangneung Angil Masil Festival, Gangneung Choral Festival, and Ojuk Bread Festival are preparing to welcome visitors.
The Gangneung Coffee Festival will run for five days from October 21st to 25th around Gangneung Coffee Street, having attracted 520,000 visitors last year. It features diverse attractions like Welcome Coffee Shop, handicraft markets, coffee and humanities programs, and a large cake performance. Furthermore, the Gangneung Wellness Day will take place on October 3rd at the Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon historic site, and the 2026 Gangneung Angil Masil Festival, a new alley festival, will be held on October 4th in the Myungju-dong and Nammun-dong areas. The Gangneung Choral Festival is scheduled from October 6th to 9th at the Gangneung Art Center and Ojuk Hanok Village with free admission, and the Ojuk Bread Festival will be from October 9th to 11th at Gangneung Ojuk Hanok Village.
Bloggers suggest that visitors to the Gangneung Coffee Festival should plan to enjoy specific programs alongside exploring nearby cafes and Anmok Beach for a more relaxed experience. Considering a weekday visit is advisable to avoid weekend crowds. They also recommend understanding the historical context of Gangneung's coffee culture, which evolved from vending machines on Anmok Beach to a robust roasting culture and coffee streets, leading to the current festival, to enrich the overall experience.
