The Incheon- 출발 KTX direct connection project, a long-awaited endeavor for Incheon citizens, has entered its comprehensive test operation phase, targeting an opening by late 2026. This initiative will alleviate the inconvenience of having to travel to Seoul Station or Gwangmyeong Station for KTX services, allowing direct KTX access from Songdo Station. The project involves directly connecting the Suin-Bundang Line with the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway to enable KTX operations into Incheon.
The Incheon- 출발 KTX will depart from Songdo Station, pass through Choji Station and Eocheon Station, and then join the Gyeongbu High-Speed Line, operating towards Busan or Gwangju/Mokpo. For this, approximately 3.19km of new track is being laid, and three stations—Songdo, Choji, and Eocheon—are being upgraded for KTX services, with a current progress rate of about 86%. Travel times are estimated to be around 2 hours 30 minutes to Busan and 2 hours 10 minutes to Mokpo from Songdo Station. It is important to note that the KTX departure station is the existing Suin-Bundang Line Songdo Station (located in Okryeon-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon), not a new station within Songdo International City.
Bloggers highlight the significant reduction in long-distance travel time as the primary benefit of the Incheon- 출발 KTX opening. There is also anticipation for the expansion of convenience facilities around Songdo Station and local cafes in the Okryeon-dong area, which could serve as resting spots. While the target opening is late 2026, there is a possibility of adjustment to the first half of 2027 depending on the test operation results, so the exact opening date is yet to be confirmed.
