IU's Drama Filmography: Analyzing Her Hit Series and International Success

IU, a prominent singer, has also established herself as an active actress, appearing in various dramas. Her drama filmography often shows contrasting results between domestic viewership and international reception, with some works achieving significant success abroad and solidifying her status as a Hallyu star.

Among IU's dramas, KBS2's 'You Are the Best!' (2013) achieved a peak viewership of 30.8%, while 'Dream High 1' marked her acting debut with 17.9%. 'The Producers' (2015) recorded 17.7%, and tvN's 'Hotel Del Luna' (2019) was a hit with 12.0% viewership. In contrast, 'Bel Ami' (2013) struggled domestically with a low of 2.9% viewership, but its production company profited from a high-value pre-sale contract to Japan before its broadcast.

Bloggers praise 'Hotel Del Luna' as a fantasy masterpiece that captured both ratings and buzz, creating one of IU's most iconic characters with its stunning visuals and solid storyline. Regarding 'Bel Ami', despite the star-studded cast including Jang Keun-suk and the popularity of the original comic, bloggers attributed its low domestic ratings to a lack of realism in the live-action adaptation and strong competition from other dramas.
