The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is scheduled to take place in October 2026, generating significant interest. A core reason for this buzz is its official recognition as an 'A-list' festival by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), which elevates its global standing and prestige.
The festival will run for 10 days, from October 6th to 15th, showcasing 246 official invited films from 59 countries, with a total of 315 films including those from Community BIFF. Notably, 95 of these are world premieres. Screenings will be held across 8 theaters and 31 screens, primarily concentrated in the Centum City area. The winner of the 'Busan Award' in the competitive section will gain eligibility for the Academy Awards' International Feature Film category. Actor Kim Min-ha is set to host the opening ceremony, while Actor Im Si-wan will host the closing ceremony.
Local bloggers emphasize that BIFF offers more than just film screenings, providing opportunities for audiences to interact with directors and actors, attend outdoor stage greetings, and participate in master classes. They advise checking specific screening locations in advance due to the spread of venues across Centum City and recommend early ticket purchases, noting that cancellation tickets for sold-out shows might become available. The festival is also highlighted as an excellent way to experience Busan's autumn atmosphere.
