A prequel to the highly successful 2015 Korean film "Inside Men" is currently generating significant buzz, with a new film series titled "Inside Men: The Birth of Villains" (working title) in production. This project has secured approximately 30 billion KRW in investment and features a high-profile cast portraying younger versions of the original characters, aiming to explore the origins of the story's antagonists.
The prequel is planned as a two-part or three-part film series, with simultaneous filming underway for the initial parts. The original "Inside Men," based on Yoon Tae-ho's webtoon, starred Lee Byung-hun, Jo Seung-woo, and Baek Yoon-sik, attracting over 7 million viewers. For the prequel, Ha Jung-woo is cast as the younger Lee Kang-hee, Ahn Bo-hyun as the younger Ahn Sang-gu, Park Hae-joon as the younger Jang Pil-woo, and Jung Sung-il as Oh Hyun-soo, chairman of Mirae Group. Directors Kim Min-bum, known for "Seoul Spring," and Kim Jin-seok, who contributed to "The Man Standing Next," are co-directing.
Local bloggers and industry observers express high anticipation for how the new cast members will interpret these iconic roles, particularly Ahn Bo-hyun's portrayal of Lee Byung-hun's Ahn Sang-gu and Ha Jung-woo's take on the younger Lee Kang-hee. The project is seen as a major tentpole film, attracting substantial investor interest due to the strong cast, experienced production team, and the original film's proven success. There is also keen interest in the decision to develop it as a multi-part film series rather than a drama.
