The Namdanghang Shrimp Festival is currently underway in Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do, offering a taste of seasonal jumbo shrimp in autumn. This popular culinary festival features plump shrimp caught from the clean waters of Cheonsu Bay, along with various performances and hands-on programs, making it a favorite for families.
This year, the Namdanghang Shrimp Festival runs for approximately two months, from September 4th to November 8th. Shrimp prices are standardized at 60,000 KRW per 1kg when dining in restaurants and 40,000 KRW for takeout. The bare-hand shrimp catching experience takes place on weekends at 2 PM or 3 PM, with an admission fee of 10,000 KRW for adults and free for children up to the 3rd grade of elementary school. Opening performances and special Chuseok holiday performances contribute to the lively weekend atmosphere.
Visitors can not only enjoy fresh shrimp but also combine their trip with nearby attractions such as the Marine Fountain Park, Namdang Sunset Observatory, and Hongseong Sky Tower for a fulfilling day trip. The bare-hand shrimp catching experience is particularly popular with children, and it is advisable to bring a change of clothes as they may get wet.
