The 2026 Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Festival, themed 'Saebitdongrak (同樂): Suwon Hwaseong, Blooming with Light,' is taking place from September 19 to October 6 around Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. Now in its sixth year, this event transforms the World Heritage site into a spectacular display of light and video, enhancing the autumn nights.
The festival is centered around three main locations: Hwaseomun Gate, Jangan Park, and Janganmun Gate. At Hwaseomun, a large-scale media art show, projected onto the entire gate, is screened three times daily (7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, 9:30 PM), with paid seating available on weekends and holidays. Jangan Park features illuminated walking paths and interactive media art, while Janganmun presents immersive media art telling the 'Suwon Hwaseong Story.' The event runs daily from 6 PM to 10 PM, with free admission to all sections.
Bloggers recommend a 2-3 hour walking course from Hwaseomun to Jangan Park and then to Janganmun, suggesting arriving 30 minutes before sunset to capture both the sunset and the lights. Given the large crowds on weekends, public transportation is advised. Reservations for paid seating at Hwaseomun can be made through Naver. Do not miss this special experience of Suwon Hwaseong's beautiful night scenery and media art.
