Geumoreum (also known as Geumak Oreum) in western Jeju is a popular oreum, standing at 427.5m above sea level. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the summit, making it a relatively accessible hike. Visitors are particularly drawn to the beautiful volcanic crater pond at the top and the expansive views of Jeju, with stunning silver grass displays in autumn. Parking and admission are free, and the parking lot is well-equipped with amenities and restrooms.
Historically, Geumoreum has been considered a sacred place, as indicated by the character 'Geum' in its name. While the initial 10-minute ascent can be steep, reaching the summit reveals a large crater and panoramic views of Jeju's mid-mountainous region, featuring lush green fields and layers of other oreums. Although the crater pond may not always contain water depending on the season or weather, its vibrant green appearance is captivating even without it. It is also known as a sunset spot, attracting many visitors in the evening.
After hiking, consider visiting local restaurants such as 'Geumak Mujjanji Naengmyeon,' located about 3 minutes by car from the oreum. This restaurant gained popularity after being featured on Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant and offers refreshing Jeju-style buckwheat noodles. When ascending the oreum, it is advisable to bring water or light beverages and wear comfortable shoes.
