The Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show is currently transforming Suwon Hwaseong Fortress with dazzling light and video from September 19 to October 6, taking place around Hwaseomun Gate, Jangan Park, and Janganmun Gate. This year's theme, 'Saebitdongrak (同樂): Suwon Hwaseong, Blooming with Light, Season 1: Ayugabin (我有嘉賓),' signifies welcoming esteemed guests by unfolding the history and stories of Suwon Hwaseong through light. The event has garnered significant attention, drawing large crowds since its opening day.
Running for 18 days, the show operates daily from 6 PM to 10 PM. Specifically, at Hwaseomun Gate, a 35-minute media art projection is showcased three times a day (at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:30 PM). High-luminosity beam projectors create three-dimensional visuals and vibrant colors on the centuries-old fortress walls, with scenes of giant whales and brilliant birds soaring across the ramparts providing an immersive experience. Additionally, the Hwaseomun area features media performances that integrate Korean dance, sangmo (traditional hat spinning), and ballet, enriching the spectacle.
Visitors note that special viewing seats at Hwaseomun are available for a fee (5,000 KRW per person) on weekends and public holidays, and public transportation is recommended due to limited parking around the venue. It is advisable to check for traffic control in certain areas beforehand. Bloggers have praised the enhanced immersion compared to previous years and the detailed 3D projection mapping that utilizes the texture of the fortress walls, recommending the experience of Suwon Hwaseong's night transforming into a completely different atmosphere.
