The Hallasan Seongpanak Trail is a popular route to the summit of Hallasan, Korea's highest mountain, offering a 20.6km round trip to Baengnokdam. Due to its popularity and for safety, advance reservations through the Hallasan National Park reservation system are mandatory for all hikers. The trail is especially sought after in autumn for its clear views of Baengnokdam.
The Seongpanak course begins at the Seongpanak Trailhead Information Center, passing through Sokbat Shelter and Jindallaebat Shelter before reaching the Baengnokdam summit. The total round-trip hiking time is approximately 9 hours and 10 minutes, including 8 hours and 20 minutes of active hiking and 50 minutes of rest. Hikers must present a QR code received upon reservation for entry. Shelters do not have convenience stores, so essential items like 3L of water, snacks, waterproof hiking boots, windbreakers, and rain gear should be prepared in advance.
Bloggers describe the Seongpanak Trail as a challenging yet rewarding experience, offering mystical views of Baengnokdam. Even during rainy hikes, glimpses of Baengnokdam through rainbows and mist create unique memories, and a summit certificate provides a sense of accomplishment. On weekends, the Seongpanak parking lot fills up quickly, so considering public transportation or using the Jeju International University transfer parking lot is advisable.
