A 3-4 meter shark has appeared in the waterway of Busan Bukhang Waterfront Park, creating a buzz as an unusual urban marine phenomenon. The sight of a large shark swimming next to a waterfront park where citizens leisurely stroll has raised questions about safety and the reasons for its presence in an urban waterway.
Experts from the National Institute of Fisheries Science believe the shark is a bull shark, a species known to inhabit coastal and subtropical waters, and suggest it likely entered the waterway while tracking prey. The shark has been frequently spotted near the 4th pedestrian bridge and the ground fountain area within the park's waterway, which is easily accessible from Busan Station's second-floor outdoor connecting passage. For safety, access to the waterway viewing area is restricted daily after 6 PM.
Bloggers report that due to the shark sighting, visitor numbers have surged, making parking very difficult on weekends. They strongly recommend using public transportation via Busan Station. In addition to the park's own parking, the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal's outdoor parking lot is also convenient. From Busan Station's second floor, visitors can reach the park within 7-10 minutes by following the moving walkway and pedestrian deck. Beyond shark viewing, the park offers a relaxing experience with open sea views and the night scenery of Busan Port Bridge, so bringing a light jacket for the sea breeze is advisable.
